Michael Playdon is the Principal of the Queensland based Architectural office, Designform Australia.

After graduating at the University of Cape Town in South Africa, Michael spent a number of years teaching in the fields of Design, History, and Communications, at the Universities of Natal and Cape Town, while at the same time carrying out a private practice.

He established an office in Brisbane Australia in 1991 and has been involved in many projects that range from the Domestic and Commercial scale, to Master Planning and Urban Design.

During this time, Michael has also lectured in the fields of Design, History and Communications at the Queensland University of Technology.

Over the past few years he has been in charge of a number of Master Planning projects, both in his own practice, and as a Design Director and consultant for other companies.

A number of his larger projects have taken place in China and his frequent visits there have enabled him to become familiar with the areas outside of Shanghai and Beijing. He has also carries out projects in the southern province of Ping Tung in Taiwan.

Michael’s particular interest is in the Contextual and Cultural appropriateness of design and the personal interaction between himself and his clients.
